BOGUS TEXT MESSAGES

Patients in Northern Ireland have received text messages indicating that their registration with their Doctors' Practice was about to lapse and they should ring the number provided. This is a fraud designed to obtain personal details.

BOGUS TELEPHONE CALLS

Patients throughout Northern Ireland are receiving telephone calls purporting to be from their own health centre enquiring about patient medication and offering medication at a discounted rate. As you know, prescription medication is free. This is a fraud and these people are after your bank details. If contacted in this way report immediately to your local police.

              Bowel Cancer Screening Video

Bowel Cancer Screening - All eligible participants must be between the ages of 60-74 years and registered with a GP in Northern Ireland. Participants will automatically receive a kit in the post when they reach the set age. They will, at this point, be invited to participate in the screening programme.

http://www.cancerscreening.hscni.net/2179.htm

A new video that shows women what to expect when they attend for breast screening has been produced by the Public Health Agency.

It covers the whole process of screening - from receiving the invitation letter to getting the results.

 _________________________________________________________________________

Do you know someone whose family has a history of abdominal aortic aneurysm- a swelling of the main artery which lies in the abdomen? If you are a man over the age of 65 and you haven't attended for screening before you can now self refer for a scan. Ring 028 90631828 to book a scan.

Test Results

test_vials2For almost all tests arranged by the Practice, we work to the principle that we will contact you with abnormal results. Two exceptions to this would be:

  • Cervical smear results which are processed centrally and posted out to patients.
  • INR blood tests (for people on warfarin) Results are to be collected by the patient the following morning after 9am.

You can assume, if you don’t hear anything from us about a result, that no action is necessary other than that which may have already been arranged e.g. your GP may have already asked you to make an appointment after some blood tests so would not contact you knowing that he/ she will be seeing you to discuss them. They would of course contact you with results that required urgent action.

We do not suggest that patients phone routinely for results because of the administrative burden that this would place on the practice (we arrange for many, many tests each day). There may be occasional circumstances where your healthcare professional will suggest you do phone. If you do have a conversation with our reception staff about a result please realise that they can only pass on the message that the doctor has left on the result and that they are unable to give an interpretation of results. So don’t be frustrated if you are asked to speak to a GP for clarification!

If you have tests at hospital then usually the results from these will be returned to the hospital doctor who ordered them. It would be rare for us to receive the results before you, so enquiries about these results would best be made to the secretary of the consultant that you have been attending.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.
